Katie and Kyle met up with me on a gorgeous October day in East Setauket, and the more time I spent with them, the more I just wanted to stay around these lovebirds! It was clear they are madly in love with each other, and they love a little risk and adventure!
We’d only gotten about ten feet into our chosen park location on the day of the session when we were approached by a person (we later referred to as the Sheriff) who said we couldn’t photograph in the park. I suggested that we could purchase a permit, but he said that town board had ruled that no permits would be granted for 2016 or 2017.
Well, I tried to explain that Katie and Kyle had come all the way down from Boston to take pictures in the park and that the sun would have set by the time we found another place, but the Sheriff was having no part in our story and asked us to leave.
A kind local homeowner then approached and said that she had overheard our dilemma. She said that her backyard had beautiful gardens that we were welcome to use. We thanked her and said we would think about it, but when she was gone, we jokingly decided that the sweet lady reminded us too much of the story of Hansel and Gretel.
So . . . what to do now? Of course, we did what most daring people do—we watched the Sheriff leave and then continued to photograph in the park. I’ll be sure to donate to the East Setauket Parks as penance.
We had a blast the rest of the day, even looking over our shoulder a few times. These two are such naturals!
Kyle & Katie, I can’t wait for your wedding! Thank you so much for an amazing adventure!
