Setauket Meeting House Wedding | Elisa & Craig

Elisa and Craig were married on October 1st, with a ceremony and reception at the Setauket Meeting House.

On the morning of the wedding, I met up with Elisa as she was getting ready in a gorgeous room at the meetinghouse. She had the coolest wedding boots—and the most amazing family there to help! Additionally, her oldest and dearest friend, Kelly, flew in from Michigan with the biggest hugs and smiles. The two of them had known each other since Elisa was just 3 years old!  Great family and the best of friends is a testament to what kind of person Elisa is.  I soon found out that Craig holds the same values.

From there, we had a quick reveal on the porch of the meetinghouse before we headed off to the small, intimate wedding. Elisa and Craig are both well-known writers, and they wrote their own vows. I’ve never heard anything so beautiful!

I loved all of the little details of the day that they threw in to make this wedding their own. For example, Elisa’s Bible was a family heirloom, and she held it during the ceremony. Their cake was custom-made to look like a stack of books—what a good fit for them! And as the night progressed, Elisa switched out her boots for a pair of Converse so she could keep on partying. I loved it!

Craig & Elisa, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of the love and laughter of your friends and family for this beautiful wedding. It meant the world to me!

Love, John

Giorgios Baiting Hollow Wedding | Jen & Tom

Jen and Tom were married on September 30th, with a ceremony at the Queen Most Holy Rosary in Roosevelt, NY, and a reception at Giorgio’s Baiting Hollow.

When I first met with Jen and Tom at a local coffee shop, I found that I loved spending time with them! Their personalities are contagious—energetic and fearless—and I wished that I could keep spending time with them by the time the meeting was over.

On the day of the wedding, we went off to the beautiful, touching ceremony at the church, and afterward, Jen pulled Tom aside to surprise him with a wedding gift in front of friends and family. Tom’s reaction was priceless—she knew him better than anyone, and I loved that little gesture that showed how much they mesh together. Like pieces in a puzzle, they fit together perfectly!

After the ceremony, there was a small mix-up with the limos, so I took 6 people in my car, including Jen’s grandmother. Obviously, the humor in this family starts with its matriarch—she was hilarious! She would just sit there and quietly listen to the ongoing conversations most of the time before suddenly jumping in with the funniest commentary. We had a blast!

Then, it was off to the party. While we had to stay indoors most of the time because of the rain, that didn’t slow down the excitement that everyone shared in the least! Jen and Tom, as I mentioned, are totally fearless and fun-loving, and some of my favorite photos were of them dancing around together—they weren’t about to let a little rain slow down their momentum.

Tom & Jen, thank you so much for letting me be part of your amazing wedding and adventures. I’ll always be your friend, and I hope that you will continue to stay in touch!

Love, John

A Perfect Fire Island Summer Wedding | Katie & Nick

Katie and Nick were married on a perfect September day under the bright sun and blue skies at Ocean Beach, with a reception at Island Mermaid on the bayside of Fire Island.

Katie was an amazing bride to work with. The more I got to know her, the more I saw how much she loves life and shares this joy with everyone she meets. This sweet, bubbly bride, along with her sister and mother, planned a wedding that was fun for everyone!

On the day of the wedding, Katie and Nick got ready at the Fire Island Hotel on Ocean Bay Park before they took a water taxi to the ceremony in a chapel at Ocean Beach. Then, we walked from the church to the Island Mermaid, laughing and taking pictures all the way.

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the amazing Fire Island location for this wedding. Fire Island is a thin barrier island off the southern shore of Long Island, New York, within an hour from New York City. The island is chock full of small town charm, with little towns up and down the bayside coast filled with boutiques and gift shops. It’s also a car-free community, and you have to ride a ferry to get there, so the whole place is very private and romantic. Us Long Islanders cherish the magic of Fire Island!

Nick & Katie, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your day and for making me feel like a good friend. I hope to see you again someday—maybe we can enjoy a drink on Fire Island as the sun sets over the bay!

Love John

Carlyle on the Green Wedding in September | Erica & Rob

Erica and Rob were married on September 23rd, with a ceremony and reception at the Carlyle on the Green.

On the day of the wedding, I arrived at Erica’s mother’s house to capture some pictures of her getting ready. It was a quiet and intimate moment, as Erica only had her sister (who was also her maid of honor) and her mom and stepdad there so she could share that time with those closest to her.

From there, we headed off to the gorgeous grounds of the Carlyle on the Green. The weather was perfect, and immediately after the reveal, the sunlight framed the two of them to beautifully highlight how excited they were to finally see each other. They are truly a stunning couple, and I couldn’t get enough of capturing the two of them as they walked the grounds. They are just so natural together!

Of course, I was also excited about this wedding because I knew Rob’s family well beforehand. Rob is the last of his brothers to get married, and I had done the photography for both of his brothers’ weddings. They are fun people, and I was glad not only to see them all again but to get an image of all the brothers together celebrating this awesome occasion for their family!

Erica & Rob, it was wonderful to see you both and to be part of your wedding. I can’t wait to see you again soon! Love, John

Summer Wedding at Captain Bill’s | Lindsey & Steve

Lindsey and Steve were married on September 16th, with a ceremony at St. Mary’s in East Islip and a reception at Captain Bill’s Bayview House in Bayshore, NY.

This whole day was filled with smiles, laughter, and nonstop fun! The epic bridal party was a group of 30 friends and family members, and I was so glad to see these two with a wonderful supporting team—especially Lindsey’s two sisters, who were there every step of the way both before and during the wedding!

While we were out taking pictures, we made a quick stop at Captree State Park, on the eastern tip of Jones Beach Island, overlooking the Fire Island Inlet. The area is spectacular and just screams “I Love Long Island,” so I thought it really matched the fun-loving mood of the day.

When we arrived at the beach, Lindsey set the mood with a huge smile as she pumped her flowers in the air—and she and her sisters were hilarious all the way through the pictures! After the bridal party pictures, I worked with just Lindsey and Steve as not only their fun-loving personalities but the warm sunlight and soft breeze made these some of the dreamiest images all day! My favorite images came when we were walking off the beach and I asked Lindsey to have some fun walking with Steve. She started with bumping him with her hip, and that was the start of a whole set of amazing—and fun—images!

From there, it was off to the reception, where the entire bridal party came out at once for introductions to make a great impression. Some had orange jail jumpers, others were dressed as police, others had horse heads, and others were riding hoverboards!

While the reception was a blast with so much dancing—and Lindsey and Steve showing everyone how it’s done—the most memorable moment for me was the best man’s speech. Steve’s best friend, Zach, met him while they were in the military serving in Iraq, and Zach delivered the best speech I have ever heard. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.

Lindsey & Steve, thank you for allowing me to be part of your wedding. I had a blast! You two really do know how to party, and I wish you both nothing but happiness!

Love, John
