Sasha and Bob were married on August 15th, 2015, with a ceremony and reception at Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard near Providence, Rhode Island. I especially love photographing Vineyard Weddings, and this was a perfect day.
These two were introduced in Providence when Bob moved there after college, so the area is special to them both. They are also close to Sasha’s family here, and not too far from Bob’s, so it was the perfect location for a wedding.
When I first met this amazing couple, I was impressed by their senses of humor but also by how successful, witty, smart, and carefree they both are. Also, they have a deep love of animals—which I quickly learned when I first met them. I arrived that day in a wool coat and left in a fur one, because their golden lab just won’t take no for an answer when it comes to getting some affection, which was okay with me!
We didn’t do any “getting ready” photos before the wedding, because Sasha wanted the morning to be private, surrounded by her closest loved ones. I appreciated her sense of tranquility and ability to be in the moment, it was beautiful to observe.
Throughout the day, I was surprised and grateful for Sasha and Bob’s realness and their sense of spontaneity. In fact, one of my favorite photos is of Sasha running through the vineyard. I wanted to get a picture of her hurrying through the vineyard—so she took off at a full-out sprint! After that, I knew better than to make suggestions when there were so many candid, hilarious, and loving moments that sprang up organically, and I got out of the way.
Nothing was staged after that. I’ll never forget when Sasha and her sister hid behind one of the vineyard rows to jump out and scare Bob’s family!
While I have so many favorite fun moments of the day, I do have to say that there was one that touched my heart in particular. Just after the ceremony, I saw Sasha walking over to her grandmother, and I had a feeling something special was going to happen. The smiles on both their faces and the slightest touch by her grandmother tells you all you need to know about their relationship. It was truly a touching moment in a day filled with a celebration of family and love.
Sasha & Bob, thank you for hiring me and allowing me to photograph your special day. Your wedding moments will always remind me of why I love what I do.
